Liminal Space: NYC, 2020, clay and rice flour
Clay and rice-flour drawings were done daily during the peak of the pandemic (April 2020) in NYC on the pavement of 67th st between 1st and 2nd ave. The drawings traced around the gum marks, map the patterns left behind by people in busier times.
Rice flour or Kolam paintings are done daily in India to welcome the new day or for an auspicious occasion. Here the kolam inspired drawings, along a pavement that connects the hospital on the river front to the residential area, become a way of offering thanks to the frontline workers during the pandemic.
